Past Explorer Club Events – Designed to increase your knowledge the wine world!

Become a Winemaker – In one of our most attended classes, club members learn the art of blending, then work in teams of four to create a blend of our Orbit wine.  Once the teams are finished, their blends are evaluated by our judges, who select two as finalists. The judges mix up the two blends and the class votes on the best blend to determine the winner. Recently, our Orbit 2020 won double gold in the Arizona Governor’s Cup competition thanks to the hard work of our wine club!  This is generally an annual event.

Meet the Wines of the Universe – In astral photography, “Deep Sky” generally refers to objects outside the Milky Way Galaxy. We hold wine club events at the Flandreau Planetarium on the U of A campus. We enjoy their current exhibit with dinner and then watch a show in the planetarium. Most recently, our wine club members learned about Black Holes while sipping our Black Hole Petite Sirah.

Wine Dinners – An Argentine Asada – Given our winemaking connections in Argentina, our wine club members enjoyed an authentic Argentine Asada (BBQ) on the tasting room patio with live music.  The owner of Dellepiane Restaurant in Sedona catered a dinner that he cooked on five specially designed grills. Dinner included empanadas, shrimp, salmon, three types of steak, salad, vegetables, cooked cheese, sausage, and on and on. The evening ended with our guests being serenaded by a sixth-generation tango singer.

Wine education classes—Our Director of Wine Education works with us to conduct 2-3 classes each year designed to increase your wine acumen. Recent topics have included how food and wine complement each other, wines of South America, wines of the Rhone Valley, Cabernets of the world, Australian wines, and a class on why we age wines.

Other activities that will increase your appreciation of wine include:

  • We do barrel tastings with wine club members several times a year. These are usually led by the owners, Kim and Phil, or our tasting room manager, Dan.
  • We also offer tours of our winemaking facilities to discuss the winemaking, aging, and equipment processes that allow us to make the highest-quality wine.
  • During the growing season (May – October) when available, we will do a “walk with Kim” through the Elgin vineyard and discuss the current state of the grapes, how we evaluate their process, the activities we perform to enhance fruit quality, the various stages of development, and taste them to assess ripeness.

Wine pick-up parties in Tucson at The Arizona Wine Collective (Tucson)  and ODV Wines (Phoenix).
